Statement by the Secretary-General at the Emergency Special Session

"Delegates, it has come to the attention of the Leadership Team that the Bèiqí tributary from the Bukhan River has also been affected by the mud from the Trump Mining Dam. Inspectors have discovered that the incident was due to this American company’s lack of commitment to the maintenance schedule of the dam.

Now this environmental and human rights crisis is affecting three nations: South Korea, North Korea, and China. However, among the three, the DPRK is by far the one that has been suffering the most due to its geographical position and its economic status. All life forms struck by the mud are dying, particularly fishes, which are the source of income of many. Even so, Kim Jong-un is not welcoming other nations into the country. This Supreme North Korean leader publicly stated that “Dollar imperialism shall not infiltrate the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as the ultimate goal of their scheme”.

You have until 9:30 to lobby and draft resolutions that tackle this pressing issue.

Thank you."
